The uppermost barrier island of the Sarasota Keys is home to three special housing markets in Manatee County. There’s the town of Anna Maria to the north and the City of Bradenton Beach to the south. Holmes Beach is nestled between these two communities, and it is the place people think about when they plan to spend time at the beach in Manatee County.
Holmes Beach is a straight drive west on Manatee Avenue, meaning it’s directly connected to Downtown Bradenton. For this reason, properties on Holmes Beach are highly sought after by investors who plan on deriving rental income from seasonal tenants. In some cases, Holmes Beach properties can also be rented on a short-term basis, but it home buyers are advised to check with their real estate agents on this.
There are about 5,000 residents on Holmes Beach; many of them live there on a seasonal basis or else are retired. Common activities among Holmes Beach residents include boating, fishing, enjoying the beach, and participating in artistic and cultural events. Even though this is the most visited beach in Manatee County, it is still very quiet in comparison to other beaches in the Sunshine State.
Holmes Beach features more convenience and amenities when compared to Anna Maria and Bradenton Beach. There are enough grocery stores, shops, restaurants, and pubs to keep residents from leaving the island. Still, reaching Downtown Bradenton is just a scenic 15 minutes away. There is even a public elementary school and a few private academies on the island.
If you are in the market for spectacular beachfront estates with private dock space as well as views of the Gulf of Mexico, Palma Sola Bay and even the entrance of the Tampa Bay, Holmes Beach is the neighborhood for you. On the other hand, you can also find beach cottages and condominium units priced at less than $200K. This is one of the few markets that can be considered to have fully recovered from the real estate crash, and thus home values are appreciating quickly.
At any given time, house hunters will find about 200 available listings on Holmes Beach. As expected, beachfront properties tend to cost more, which is why it is sometimes wise to consider listings located on the Palma Sola Bay side of the island. As long as your home is located within the city limits of Holmes Beach, you will never live more than a couple of blocks away from the ocean.
